Carver, Massachusetts Methodist Episcopal church where the Shaw and Crocker families worshipped until Susie was 14. Then they began attending the Union Church. The church had been organized before the Revolution, when the farmers in the locality built their own church and called the assocation "Proprietors." When the church was dedicated July 28, 1855, the founders adopted the plan of their forefathers and established a church without a creed. Many visiting preachers occupied the pulpit, especially in the summers when surrounding churches were shut down.
